Herbal Medicine for Cancer Care
The Austin Centre, 3809 S 2nd St
Monday, October 3rd, 6:30-8:30 pm
$10-20 sliding scale

From an integrated medicine perceptive there is much that can be done while one is going through cancer treatments. From surgery to chemotherapy through radiation and hormone treatments, herbs can provide harm reduction, offset side effects and reduce future problems.

This class is a lesson in soft medicine, using food, life style changes and easy to find herbs to increase vital force in the body. This is an essential class for any Western Herbalist or other practitioner doing complementary care for clients with cancer. It is also appropriate for any one who suffers from cancer and is looking to empower themselves and create a personal plan of action.

Riding the Twelve Dragons: Hormones, Consciousness, Herbal Aikido and Transformation

Earthwise Farm, 26203 Hamilton Pool Rd
Thursday, October 6th 10:00 AM-4:00 PM
$80 with limited aid for the financially challenged

Our bodies have tides ruled by chemical messages in the blood known as hormones.  These hormones are triggered by a complex and exciting process that is dependent on an organized response to run smoothly.  Like a good symphony, each musician has a time to come in.  Without organization and direction from a leader, the ingredients of a great concert can go sour and be irritating and offensive.

In this class we will explore the complexity of hormonal experience - the rising and falling of different hormonal dragons, the body’s experience and thoughts, feelings and behavior that come from each of these colorful dragons.  On Tuesday evening, we will take a detailed look at the menopausal time, when the dragons are shifting to explore the consciousness that they bring. On Thursday, we will explore twelve of the most dominant hormones.

Since a dragon can never be tamed we will discuss how to influence dragons to behave through directing a path.  An herbal remedy becomes an aikido move that gently directs the body to respond in concert.  Such work can enlighten and transform lives.

Texas House Bill that will affect herbal practitioners if passed

The Texas AHG takes no position on this bill, the Texas Health Freedom Act, HB 1716. This information is provided so that you can research this topic more yourself and figure out your own opinion of it. A google search will reveal a wide variety of opinion about the motivations behind this bill. The current text of the bill can be found via this link: Texas HB 1716

International Herb Events

Posting the above calendar of local Central Texas herb events led someone to email me and ask about national and international herb events. The best source I know of for that information is The American Botanical Council's herbal events calendar. If you know of other calendars, please let me know!
